At Dynamic Catholic, we like to say “our lives change when our habits change.” At Christmastime,
we're preparing our
hearts for Jesus, and it's important to think a little bit about our habits, isn't it? How exactly
do we prepare,
because preparation is needed in lots of aspects of our lives but especially in our
habits—especially, maybe, in some
of those habits that we often tend to overlook in our spiritual journey. Let's take a closer look
From The Turning Point
God—the Word of God in the form of Jesus, God in the flesh, the logos—is moving in next door to you.
Now imagine that
for just a moment, and imagine that he comes over to visit.
When he comes to visit, how do you feel? Do you immediately feel like you need to confess something
to him? Do you
immediately notice something in your house or in your life that you really need to change? What is
it like to have him
at your house, in your home? Maybe he goes through the whole day with you. What's that like? And in
particular, I want
you to focus on the area that you think you're the most likely to grow forward in and the area that
you would most like
to grow forward in, because the logos—the Word of God, God made flesh—is coming into the world. The
world is meeting
Jesus. Better still, you are meeting Jesus. Prepare: you're about to meet the very Word of God.
I'm often prepared, but sometimes I prepare for the wrong thing. Last fall I was blessed to be able
to go visit one of
my friends in Germany and spent time packing and thought I was ready. But when I got to the train
platform in Germany,
I realized all the signs were in German—and I didn't speak any German. I was in my cute shoes and
outfit, but I prepared for the wrong thing. I should have actually packed a dictionary, or
downloaded an app on my
phone so I could actually figure out where I was going.
So I'm not always prepared in the correct way. Just like in my normal life—maybe I have my lunch
ready to go in the
morning, and I have everything I need for the day, but I didn't start my day in prayer. Or at
Christmas: I have my tree
up, I've wrapped all my gifts, but I haven't actually prepared my heart for Jesus.
What about you? Are you good at preparing?
