Focus

1. Reconciliation is a lifelong blessing.

2. No matter how far you may wander from God, he will never stop searching for you and he will never stop encouraging you to become the-best-version-of-yourself, to grow in virtue, and to live a holy life.

3. Your child’s First Reconciliation is going to be a great moment in his or her life.

Act

In all likelihood, your child is going to be nervous to make his or her First Reconciliation. You can help ease his nerves. It doesn’t matter how long it has been since your last Confession—go. Reconciliation is the perfect spiritual practice to rekindle our passion for excellence in the spiritual life. It is a blessing and a gift to embrace. It is not just a cleansing experience; it is a strengthening experience. It is an opportunity to work with God to form a-better-version-of-ourselves.

When you go to Reconciliation, make a point to either take your child with you or tell him about it afterwards. Sharing the experience with him will help him know it isn’t so scary. But more than that, you can show him by example that Reconciliation is not just a one-time event, but a lifelong blessing.

Pray

Glory be to the Father,

and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.
